Description: In this tour you will learn how to bake sweet empanadas and other traditional Costa Rican treats! After baking, and having some coffee, you’ll be guided by ox cart to have a traditional lunch served by a local family at their farm. A translator will accompany the experience so you don't miss out on any recipe!
Logistics:
10 a.m. Meet at the Community Center, located on the east side of Venado’s Soccer Field. Here you will learn about Clara Vista and how they work with the community to bring sustainability and local empowerment.
10.15 a.m. We will then drive to Maribel’s house just minutes away. Maribel is proud owner of the Bakery, she will have us taste different traditional pastries, drink some coffee and learn how to make empanadas.
12 p.m. The Ox cart arrives to bring us to Iris home just down the road.
12.15 p.m. Iris and her family have prepared a delicious traditional lunch outdoors in a country setting, natural beverages and traditional homemade tortillas, Yum!
2 p.m. (approx) Ride the ox cart back to Maribel’s.

Package 2
Description: Having many coastal communities, a big part of Guanacaste’s culture and economy relies on the ocean. In this tour you will learn how to provide like a tico! Take a class on how to make your very own hand-lining board for fishing and then have a fun ox cart ride through the jungle and to the beach! Miguel, the self-proclaimed best fisherman in Venado, will teach you how to fish like a Costa Rican with your new hand-lining board.
Logistics:

11 a.m. We will head to Miguel’s house just steps away, where he will help you build your own hand-lining board - Tico design!
12 p.m. We will return to Venado’s Plaza for a traditional lunch at the local restaurant.Yum!
12.30 p.m. The ox cart will pick everyone up and head to the beach through a beautiful jungle road to the beach, near the estuary, where Miguel teaches how to use your new lining-board and fish artisanally.
2.30 p.m. Hop on the Ox Cart again to go back to the Community Center.

Description: Join Gerardo (locally known as Chayul) on an authentic ox cart ride and enjoy a truly local experience. Book your tour of Venado and Chayul will take you on a cultural experience unlike any other! Whether you go through the luscious jungle or to the serene beach of Venado, you’ll definitely have some stories to tell when you go back home.

Description: A fun lesson on how to craft a hand-lining board with Miguel at his home. Then head to nearby Playa Venado or Lagarto to learn the tricks and secrets to artisanal fishing!.
Logistics: Depending on the tide, we set a time to meet at Community Center.

Package 5
Description: Learn how to make empanadas with Maribel! Book one of our tours to visit Maribel’s house and learn how to make bread Tico style in her traditional adobe oven. Clara Vista helped several women in Venado apply for a grant to start their own businesses, with support from the Santa Cruz Municipality. Out of hundreds of applicants, Maribel was one of the three grant winners in the Guanacaste region! With this grant, she was able to purchase a new oven and flour mill to start her own bakery. She now sells delicious baked goods and even pizza to nearby markets – you can buy them right at Juanita’s pulperia on the Venado soccer field or order them directly from her!
